| Bike to Work Week Business Challenge 2009 - Wednesday, July 01, 2009
Last year’s Bike to Work Week Business Challenge, the second annual, had 29 businesses involved and all had something in common: enthusiasm for cycle commuting. Even though there were fewer businesses this year the end results were better than in 2008. About the same amount of riders (300 people per day) rode to work instead of driving. This year the Business Challenge included non-recreational bike miles in the daily totals. That addition combined with greater awareness produced 37% more weekly miles. The grand total from all riders this year is 12,293 commute miles compared to 8,957 last year.
The Bike to Work Business Challenge awards businesses the title of, “Most cycle friendly business in Chico”. Three businesses came to the top:
* Large Business Division: Fifth Sun
* Medium Business Division: Norhtstar Engineering
* Small Business Division: The Chico Project
These businesses produced high levels of ridership percentage, miles per rider, and total miles in the week.
